Clean Drinking Water No More An Unaffordable Commodity

BharatJal

Recently, India celebrated its 74th Independence Day. While we have come a long way since 1947, the reality is that there are various aspects where progress is far from its fulfilment. Even today, there are over 1.3 billion people who do not have access to clean drinking water and over 10 million people are affected by water borne diseases every year.

In an effort to make the accessibility of clean water a priority, the United Nations General Assembly explicitly recognized the human right to water and sanitation and acknowledged that clean drinking water and sanitation are essential to the realisation of all human rights in 2010.

Bharat Jal, founded in 2017 is a water-tech initiative with an aim to provide local commuters clean and safe drinking water at an affordable price. By creating a network of mobile E-Rickshaws (mobile water ATMs) the company is creating a revolution to make potable water an accessible and affordable commodity.

BharatJal

Bharat Jal stresses effort to change the fact that clean drinking water at affordable prices is nothing but a luxury for commuters in India. In a country where citizens have to walk miles to fetch a glass of water, or finally buy a bottle that they do not want to consume for Rs20/ litre, BharatJal provides water at almost half the rate – 3 Rupees for a 250 ml glass and 10 Rupees for a litre.

The procedure followed to make this water reach customers is a fully automated process. Human intervention is minimal in the purification, transportation and the delivery of water and the multi-stage water filtration process ensures a consistent availability of 10,000 litres/hour of clean and cold drinking water. Water plants are constantly monitored and real-time updates are available to track activity, the litres dispensed and other such factors.
